How many bottles should you plan?
Choose the occasion and enter the number of guests: the calculation follows the usual trade guidelines. It is an estimate; allow a little more if the evening runs late.
- 6 glasses per 75 cl bottle
- Aperitif: 2 glasses of sparkling wine per guest
- Dinner: 2 glasses of red and 1 of white or rosé
- Dessert: 1 glass of sparkling wine
The six-glass rule
A 75 cl bottle serves six 12.5 cl glasses, the usual measure for a glass of wine at the table. For a standing aperitif, where slightly less is poured, you can get a few more glasses from the same bottle.
What changes the count
The length of the reception, the season, the time of day and the number of courses all affect consumption. A party that runs late, an outdoor summer meal or a long dinner call for more. Better to plan a little extra: an unopened bottle keeps.
Splitting the colours
For a meal, the custom is to allow two glasses of red and one of white or rosé per guest. Sparkling wine often opens the celebration and goes with dessert. The calculator breaks down the number of bottles by colour.
